Ad Campaign Launched to Encourage Congress to Enact Comprehensive Medicare Reform This YearFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 26, 2003 (Arlington, VA) -- The National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) announces the launch of the Alliance to Improve Medicare's (AIM) national advertising campaign urging Congress to pass comprehensive Medicare reform legislation that includes a prescription drug benefit. Today, AIM's Medicare media campaign will debut television and print ads that will run for four weeks in 20 states. NAHU is a member of AIM's Steering Committee and a co-sponsor of these advertisements. "NAHU believes that access to affordable prescription drugs should be an integral part of an overall reform plan that addresses the serious flaws of the almost 30-year old program," stated Janet Trautwein, vice president of government affairs. "We hope for the sake of our nation's current and future seniors that Congress takes advantage of this year's opportunity to approve legislation to improve Medicare and provide seniors with much-needed prescription drug coverage. "We believe that Medicare beneficiaries should enjoy the same kind
of health care choices and quality plans that health insurers already
offer to millions of Americans in the private market. Some advantages
of private health plans are they typically offer more choices and adapt
more quickly to changes in medicine and technology. "It is vital that Congress reach a bipartisan agreement NOW that
will strengthen and improve Medicare, a system on which millions of seniors
depend." The National Association of Health Underwriters represents more than 18,000 health insurance professionals who provide insurance for millions of Americans. NAHU is headquartered in Arlington, VA. For more information, visit www.nahu.org. Contact: ###
