Training on Medicare Advantage and Part D Prescription Drug Plans

New Online Training Program for Brokers, Agents and Plan-Staff Marketing

In light of the intense scrutiny of Medicare marketing activities, and the pressure that we feel from Congress, beneficiary groups, and other stakeholders, as well as the increasingly stringent requirements established by CMS, America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), Center for Insurance Education and Professional Development has launched a new online training program, Marketing Medicare Advantage and Part D Prescription Drug Plans: Understanding Medicare Basics, Plan Options, and Marketing and Enrollment Requirements.

Co-sponsored by the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) and the Association of Health Insurance Advisors (AHIA), this course is designed to strengthen brokers, agents, and plan marketing staff's ability to provide the information beneficiaries need to make the decisions that are best for them. Those who complete this course will gain an understanding of:

  • the basics of Medicare fee-for-service eligibility and benefits;
  • the different types of Medicare Advantage and Part D prescription drug plans, eligibility, and coverage; and
  • marketing and enrollment requirements under the Medicare Advantage and Part D programs, including requirements for Private Fee For Service (PFFS) plans.
  • the course is designed to provide rigorous training on the rules for the individual Medicare market so that brokers and agents will be able to achieve a certificate that they can provide to all Medicare Advantage and Part D plan sponsors with which they contract. It will avoid the need for Medicare Advantage and Part D plan sponsors to require completion of duplicative training on core topics, and it will complement each plan sponsors' plan-specific training for brokers, agents, and plan marketing staff.
