Meet the Instructors

Sharon Alt - Instructor

Sharon Alt is the founder and president of Alt Benefit Consultants, a highly respected third-party administration company based in Fort Worth, Texas. Alt Benefits specializes in the administration of tax-advantaged plans such as flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, and health reimbursement arrangements.

Joan Fusco - Lead Reviewer/Instructor

Joan Fusco is director, Research & Education for Savoy Associates. She joined Savoy Associates in April 2003, bringing with her 31 years of insurance industry experience. Joan's unique experience will allow her to provide guidance and research regarding compliance in federal and state insurance laws. In addition, she will hold regular continuing education classes for Savoy Associates' producers helping them to keep current with changing laws and regulations.

Josh Hilgers - Instructor

Josh Hilgers has marketed health insurance in multiple states, and has become an expert in consumer driven health care and the communication of these plan designs. Josh started Innovative Benefits Consulting in 2007 which now has over 70 agents in several states. The focus at IBC is to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly changing insurance marketplace by understanding the ever-changing tax and legal issues as well as the latest products and designs from the nation's leading carriers. In 2010, Josh created Health Partners America and Health Partners Training to engage and train agents across the country about the defined contribution platform and how to implement it.

Stephen Honig - Reviewer/Instructor

Stephen Honig started his career in employee benefits over 20 years ago, and he currently serves as president of O.C.A. Benefit Services. Through a combination of communication techniques and cutting-edge plan designs utilizing Health Reimbursement Arrangements and Health Savings Accounts, Steve and his team have earned a nationwide reputation for reducing health care costs while at the same time improving the quality of the health care delivered.

Eric Johnson - Lead Author/Instructor

Eric Johnson is the Director of Education for HealthEquity, one of the nation’s leading Health Savings Account (HSA) administrators. HealthEquity recently acquired First Horizon Msaver, where he has worked for the past three years.

A recognized leader in the health insurance industry, Eric is a Past President of the Fort Worth Association of Health Underwriters and a national instructor for NAHU’s Consumer Directed Health Care certification course. He is a frequent speaker at insurance conferences and association meetings across the county and is a two-time recipient of the William G. Wetzel Award for Excellence in Public Speaking from the National Association of Health Underwriters. He is also a regular contributor to Benefits Selling Magazine and BenefitsPro.com.

Eric has lived in Texas all his life. He was born and raised in Houston and has lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 1997. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin.

Scott Mardis - Reviewer/Instructor

Scott Mardis is an NAHU reviewer and instructor and is a Consumer-Driven Healthcare consulting expert with 15 years industry experience working with health insurance carriers, brokers and agents while managing the development of complex long-term solutions for small to large size organizations. Scott is currently the Senior Vice President of Business Development for AmeriFlex, an organization that delivers technology-based, consumer-driven benefits solutions to clients throughout the United States supported by an integrated FSA/HRA/HSA/CRA debit card platform, the AmeriFlex Convenience Card.
