President Donald W. Goldmann


Don Goldmann has worked as an agent, manager, vice president, general brokerage agent, owner and consultant for over 35 years.

Currently, he serves as the vice president of the Word & Brown University. Prior to that, he was the vice president of national sales.

Don helped to build a successful general agency with Harry Gousha and worked to affect the sale of that company to CIMS/WellPoint.

Don have served as the vice president of customer service and later as the vice president of provider relations for MetLife HealthCare Network.

He began as a life insurance salesman with Massachusetts Mutual out of the Ray Paul Agency in Rockford, IL.

While Don has had experience in all phases of the industry, he currently focus on consulting concerning the understanding and application of federal and California laws related to health insurance as well as providing training in salesmanship, motivation and wellness.

President Elect James R. Stenger


Jim started in the health insurance business in 1973. He has experience across many disciplines in group health insurance and employee benefits.

From 1973 through 1986, he worked at two major insurance companies and two international insurance brokerage firms. He joined a third-party administration firm in 1986 and grew it into one of the largest general agencies in the northeast. In 2010, he sold his company to BenefitMall where he served for two years as director of business development in New Jersey. He established a consulting firm in southwest Florida where he works with his wife on practice management, strategic planning and marketing.

Vice President Johnny Dawkins


Johnny Dawkins is a strategic benefits consultant at Ebenconcepts in Fayetteville, NC. He is a licensed life, health and Medicare insurance specialist. He is a past chairman of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce and the chamber’s Military Affairs Council. Johnny is a past president of NCAHU, a former elected member of the Fayetteville City Council and a former chairman of the HUPAC Board of Trustees.

Treasurer Michael A. Embry


For the past 29 years, Mike has dedicated his career to the insurance industry, its agents and clients. In 1989, Mike founded and ran his own small benefits planning agency. Then, in 1996, Mike founded the employee benefits practice at Michigan-based Comerica Insurance Services. In 2014, Mike purchased the employee benefits practice from Comerica and opened Comprehensive Benefits, Inc. His areas of practice are small group benefits, mid-size group benefits, worksite voluntary benefits and small and mid-size self-funded plans.

Mike has been a very active member of NAHU since 1993 and has received NAHU’s Distinguished Service Award and Legislative Achievement Award and annually receives the Triple Crown award since its inception in 2004. Mike became a lifetime and qualifying member of Leading Producers Round Table (LPRT) in 2009 and has been a member of the Soaring Eagle Club for the past three years.

Prior to being elected to NAHU’s Executive Committee, Mike served as the Region III vice president from 2010 through 2013. Before these roles, he held numerous leadership positions in Michigan, including president of Michigan AHU, president of Metro Detroit AHU and legislative chairperson for both Metro Detroit and Michigan AHU. He also had the pleasure of serving as Region III HUPAC chairperson.

Secretary Russell Lee Rice


Rusty entered the industry in 1993 and is currently the regional vice president of sales for Avesis Incorporated based in San Antonio, TX. Avesis is a 100% broker driven national vision, dental and hearing benefits company for groups with two or more employees. His current territory includes Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Rusty also markets employer group medical gap plans for the western half of the United States and assists his company with healthcare reform presentations.

Immediate Past President Ryan P. Thorn


Ryan has been active in NAHU leadership since 1992, serving on the state, regional and national levels. He was elected to the Executive Board four years ago and in July 2015 he completed his term as the national president. Ryan has his own small agency in South Jordan, UT, and serves the following areas: small group, individual, Medicare, dental, life and other ancillary products. He is certified through the federally facilitated marketplace and provides help for customers who prefer that method of coverage. Ryan has been in business since 1982.

Region I Vice President Paul E. Smith


Paul Smith has been an insurance professional since 1973. Since 1989, he has owned Paul E. Smith Insurance, LLC. His focus has always been on small businesses developed through networking local Chamber of Commerces.

Paul has been a member of NAHU since 1997, serving on the state board since 2007. He served as Connecticut AHU president from 2010 until 2012. From 2009 to 2012, he served as the Region I HUPAC chair and then in 2013 he was HUPAC’s vice chair and the chair in 2014.

Paul has been married to Patti since 1989.

Region II Vice President R. Dane Rianhard


Dane has over 24 years of experience in insurance and benefit planning. His foundation of knowledge and experience built on the fundamentals of life insurance and risk planning, allow him to educate clients and bring them a clear overview of pertinent issues in the marketplace. His skill as a negotiator and his long-standing relationships with insurance carriers enhance his value as an advisor to his clients.

Dane is a great listener and he brings a sincere, empathetic style to his consultations with business owners, CEOs, CFOs, human resource managers and their employees. Dane is a founding principal at TriBridge and works as a senior consultant primarily to the employers of larger workforces.

Progressive best practices in the management of population health, risk factors, plan design and long-term stabilization of healthcare inflation are areas of expertise for Dane. Dane is actively involved health insurance legislation and has advised the IRS on many aspects of PPACA.

He lives outside Frederick, MD, with his wife, Teresa. He is the proud father of two daughters and two step-daughters.

Region III Vice President Patricia A. Griffey


Patricia Griffey has been an NAHU member since 1997. She previously owned and operated a group benefits general agency and currently specializes in individual Medicare products for The Healy Group in South Bend, IN. Pat was co-founder of the Greater Northern Indiana AHU in 1998, has continuously served in leadership positions on both the state and local levels and just completed her first two-year term as Region III vice president.

Region IV Vice President Troy J. Cook


Troy Cook has over 24 years of insurance, healthcare and employee benefit experience. He is currently vice president of sales and business development for Telligen, a health management company.

Before becoming a regional vice president, he served as legislative council chair, and is a past president and board member for the Iowa AHU.

He has been published numerous times and is a frequent speaker around the country on various topics including healthcare reform, ethics in business, motivation and leadership.

Region V Vice President Julian E. Lago


Julian entered the insurance industry as a college agent with New England Life and shortly after graduation, moved to Florida and became an agent with Northwestern Mutual Life. His professional career includes positions as vice president of life and health at Walton Insurance/Acordia of south Florida and regional property and casualty agencies. Over the past several years, Julian has expanded his practice to include consulting for a variety of companies in the healthcare field, including TPA's, direct primary care providers, online agencies, private exchanges, and health and wellness organizations.

When Julian is not at work or traveling for business you can find him enjoying time with his wife and four children.

Region VI Vice President Kelly Don Fristoe


Kelly Fristoe began his insurance career in March of 1990 in Lubbock, TX. A year later, he relocated to Wichita Falls, TX, and joined NAHU through the Texoma AHU. Since then Kelly has served as president of the Texoma AHU and has served as the president of the Texas AHU and now as NAHU’s Region IV vice president. It is his firm belief that his involvement in this association is what has primarily contributed to his success as a health insurance professional.

Region VII Vice President Rosanne Wolfe


Rosanne Wolfe began her career in the insurance industry in 1986. For eight years she worked for major insurance carriers. Rosanne founded Wolfe Insurance & Consultants, LLC, in 1996, specializing in small group benefits and the individual markets, including Medicare products. She has been involved in NAHU since 1989 at the local, state and national levels. Rosanne likes helping people make good decisions.

Region VIII Vice President Linda Rose Koehler


Linda Rose has been in the health insurance industry since 1986. Since first joining Inland Empire AHU in 1990, she has stayed active in NAHU, many chapters and two states, including being chapter president in three different chapters: Past NAHU awards chair, past CAHU president, CAHU PAC Executive Board member, Golden Gate AHU member and Region VIII vice president.

Linda Rose manages the health division of Herzog Insurance Agency in Pleasanton, CA. She has three grandchildren. She resides in Livermore with her Siberian Husky, and soon twin grandchildren.

Legislative Council Chair Edward M. Oleksiak


As chief compliance officer, Ed Oleksiak leads Holmes Murphy & Associates’ national advisory group on healthcare reform. His extensive experience in managing administration, budgeting and planning of welfare benefit plans, as well as his legal expertise, enables him to offer a unique perspective on legislative and compliance issues affecting employers.

Ed holds a B.S. in Mathematics/Computer Science from Walsh University, and an M.B.A. and J.D. in Corporate Law from the University of Akron. He serves as 2015-2016 chair of the NAHU Legislative Council and board member for the Southwest Benefits Association.

Membership Council Chair Louis P. Reginelli


Louis P. Reginelli is the president of LPR Insurance Agency. He is an insurance industry veteran focusing on employee benefits for small to mid-size businesses.

Lou holds a B.S. from Elmhurst College and his RHU designation from the American College. Lou has been applying his business acumen to the needs of his clients for more than 31 years, specializing in customer service and industry knowledge.

Lou has been a NAHU member since 1995, serving on local, state, regional and national committees. He has been the Professional Development chair twice while serving on that committee for 10 years. He has also served on the NAHU’s Membership Council as manager and vice chair.

Lou and his wife Lisa live in Naperville, IL, and will celebrate their 31st wedding anniversary later this year.

Executive Vice President and CEO Janet Trautwein


Janet Trautwein is the chief executive officer of NAHU in Washington, DC. NAHU represents more than 100,000 employee benefits professionals involved in the design, sale, implementation and management of health plans all over the United States. Her responsibilities include oversight of all NAHU activities and primary representation of the association to the public. A frequent speaker on health policy issues, Janet has been asked to testify before Congress numerous times, and has been published in major newspapers and has appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs around the world.
